MR. ALLEN DARBY, JR., 78, of Wayne, W.Va., passed away Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at the Emogene Dolin Hospice House. Junior, as most called him, was born August 26, 1938 in Logan County, West Virginia, a son of the late Joe Allen and Tilda Carter Darby. He was a retired coal miner from the former Monterey Coal Company at the Camp Creek Mine, now known as Rockspring Development. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Brenda Wallace Eaves; three sisters, Barbara Darby, Bertha Gibson, and Arvadella Clark; and five brothers, Leslie Adams, Joe Darby, Hubert Darby, Dewey Darby, and Wayne Darby.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Effie Smith Darby; three daughters, Sadie Marie Wallace (Jerry) Osborne of East Lynn, W.Va., Connie Wallace Martin of Monroe, Ohio, and Karen Darby (Sorin) Bodoiu of Middleton, Idaho; four sons, James “Larry” Wallace of Barboursville, W.Va., Millard Thomas (Tammie) Wallace of Washington, Penn., Timothy Allen (Linda) Darby of Wayne, and Kevin Lee (Debbie) Darby of Wayne, W.Va.; 15 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are five sisters, Jean (Les) Williamson of Cyclone, W.Va., Rose Macintyre Darby of Montana, Martha Butcher of Columbus, Oh., Nancy Elmer of Prairie du Chien, Wisc., and Brenda (Dave) Ward of Lavalette, W.Va.; special friend Richard Dummitt and wife Marie of Wayne; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, January 20, 2017 at Johnson Tiller Funeral Home with Elder Roger Maynard and Brother Richard Dummitt officiating. Burial will follow in Community Memorial Gardens. Friends may call after 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
