Richard Meadows Obituary

“Smiling” RICHARD NEAL MEADOWS "Dick" was born in 1938, which makes him a Rock & Roll teen rebel of the 50s. His eyes opened March 10th at C&O hospital weighing in at a hefty 3lbs 8oz.
Richard was known for his entertaining stories, which he loved to repeat often, laughing inappropriately at every chance, same as his “girls”. He loved all people, be it neighbors, family, friends or brief acquaintances and was generous to a fault… you see, he knew you couldn’t take it with you. He had a zest for living and made friends everywhere he went. He took good care of his family and took fashion cues from no one. He and his beloved wife, Fern, were constant companions and did everything together, supporting each other through the good times and the rough ones. Good friends, good times, good music, good food and laughter were his everyday delights! The flea market and yard sale folks are going to miss him, as he was a born merchant and left many baubles behind.
He was given the gift of life, but had to give it back, but weren’t we all lucky and grateful to have known him! Now he takes his mortal leave of this rollicking, revolving mudball we call Earth… all those 80 trips around the sun. He took his stroll through all our lives and has left his impression and remembrances for us to enjoy. The memory of Richard Meadows is a treasure and I hope that you, too, can say that you are better because he passed your way.
A heartfelt thank you to all who called on him, visited him and loved him throughout his life and kept him in their thoughts. Too many of you to mention. He truly loved you all!
Richard is survived by his wife of 58 years, Fern Meadows, two daughters, Sally Meadows Ashworth and Beverly Meadows Sitherwood, two amazing and loving son-in-laws, David Ashworth and Carl Sitherwood, and two beloved grandchildren, Neal Sitherwood and Rachel Sitherwood. Richard was pre-deceased by his mother and father, Mary Etta Pine and Merrill Meadows.
If you feel the urge to spend money, Richard would not want anyone to use their money on flowers for his funeral. Instead, he would be tickled pink if you planted flowers in your garden, perform an unexpected kindness for his beloved wife, or took yourself and your family out to a good show, a concert or a nice meal at a locally owned restaurant and raised a toast. He lived a full and happy life. We’re born; we blink; and it’s over. So do your best, follow your bliss, and never stop smiling... just like Richard.
Finally, the family asks that in honor of Richard and all citizens, that you please write your Congressman to support Universal Healthcare, as well as lending support to that beautiful organization, Hospice of Huntington WV.
We will celebrate Dick's life at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 4, 2018 at Johnson Tiller Funeral Home.  Burial will follow at Woodmere Memorial Park.  Visitation will be held on Friday from 6 - 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
