THELMA SPENCE, 81, of Kiahsville, W.Va., went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 6, 2019 at her home. Thelma was born September 21, 1938 at Cove Gap, W.Va., a daughter of the late Charles Spence and Armilda Watts Spence. Also preceding her in death were three brothers, Charles Spence, Jr., Freddie Spence, and Guy Spence; two sisters, Milda “Toots” Napier and Mary Potter; and one son-in-law, Mike Dean. Thelma was retired from Sara Lee Corp., as well as a homemaker. She dearly loved sewing and made beautiful quilts for all her friends and family.
Survivors include eight children, Larry (Kim) Spence of Mt. Airy, N.C., Jona Dean of Ranger, W.Va., Patty (David) Smith of Shelby, N.C., Faye (Bill) McCoy of Kiahsville, Ronnie (Toni) Pack of Commerce, Ga., Glenn (Sharon) Pack of Bluefield, W.Va., Paula Pack (James) of Dobson, N.C., and Michael (Heather) of Glenwood, W.Va.; 16 grandchildren; 35 great grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers, Chester Spence of Ferrum, Va., and Basil (Sharon) Spence of Wayne, W.Va.; one sister, Vada (Johnny) Cordell of Athens, Ala.; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. The family would like to thank the staff of LNRC and Hospice of Huntington for the care they gave Thelma.
Funeral services will be held at noon, Sunday, November 10, 2019 at the Cove Gap United Baptist Church with Pastor Mark Hatfield and Brother Benny Dean officiating. Burial will follow in the Pres-Friley Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5-9 p.m. Saturday at the church. Arrangement entrusted to Johnson Tiller Funeral Home.
