Tolbert Moore Obituary

TOLBERT WALKER “BERT” MOORE, 74, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 1, 2019 at St. Mary's Medical Center surrounded by his loved ones. Born August 24, 1944, in East Lynn, Bert joins his late parents Tolbert and Ethel (Chafin) Moore; brothers, John, Herbert, Harmon, and Wendell Moore; sisters, Marie Leright and Blondie Johnson; and bonus daughter, Tracy Lynn.

Bert was known for his sense of humor and devotion to family. His wife speaks of his love, loyalty, and friendship during their 31 years together. His daughters cherish fond memories and shared words of wisdom with their beloved father. He made it evident that he valued each and every moment and conversation with those in his life.

Bert worked for Ford Motor Co. and as an auxiliary police officer while residing in Michigan. Then, he moved to Ohio for work and while living there, met his soulmate, Joanne. They married on February 14, 1988, in North Ridgeville, Ohio. He returned to the beautiful hills of West Virginia in 1992 with his adoring wife; using his love for carpentry, they built a home to accommodate their many hobbies and love for the outdoors. Together, they opened Joanne's Restaurant, in Dunlow, and worked side by side for many years. He enjoyed camping, hunting, gardening, and playing guitar.

He has left behind his best friend and devoted wife, Joanne Moore; daughters, Tresa (Daniel) Mathews of Lexington, Oh., Tammy (John) Browning of Goshen, Ind.; siblings, Valley Ducharme of Fairfax, Va., Icle Maynard of Dunlow; seven grandchildren, Justin (Rachel) Mathews Pulaski, Va., Sarah (Ernie) Kumpf , Amanda Browning, of Elkhart, Ind., Amy (Dustin) Alwine of Goshen, Ind., Marshall Lee Browning II, of Elkhart, Ind., John David Browning II of Goshen, and Naomi Leanne of Defiance, Oh.; and five great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are sisters-in-law, Mazie, Dorothy and Linda (John) Sklenar of LeGrange, Oh.; brother-in-law Russel; many nieces and nephews; special friends Keith Steward, Bob Hale and Jackie, and Arnold Adams.

A special thank you is extended to nieces Robin (J.T. Spaulding) of Dunlow, Juanita (Phillip) Nelson of Dunlow; and the staff of St. Mary’s Medical Center, Encompass Health & Rehabilitation, Ebeneezer Medical Outreach, and Stonerise Healthcare for their loving care.
