ALBERT MERRITT, of East Lynn, W.Va, was born April 20, 1918 and departed this life on Sunday, September 18, 2016 at the age of 98.  The son of the late Albert and Safrona Merritt, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Martha Jarrells Merritt, and eight brothers and sisters, Mae Nance, Sylvia Clay, Letha Adkins, Thelma McDonald, Bruce Merritt, Howard Merritt, Homer Merritt, and Donald Merritt.

Albert spent most of his adult life in Michigan but retired to his native Wayne County where he spent the rest of his days.

Survivors include one daughter, Janet (Larry) Adkins of Huntington, W.Va.; and three sisters Rachel Skeens of Trenton, Michigan, Bessie Fortner of Amherst, Ohio, and Ruth Asbury of East Lynn; and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Albert was a kind, gentle man with a ready smile for anyone he met.  Albert's wish was to be at home with family in his final days – God granted his wish!

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday, September 21, 2016 at Johnson Tiller Funeral Home with Brother Ivory Williamson officiating.  Burial will follow in Maupin Cemetery, Ona. Friends may call after 6 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
