CHALLIS BROWN BAKER, 92, of East Lynn, W.Va., passed away Thursday, July 30, 2026, at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House. He was born January 18, 1934, in East Lynn, a son of the late Leslie and Thyrsa Shuff Baker. Also preceding him in death were two brothers, Garnet G. Baker and Hollis Baker; one sister, Hollena Baker Adkins; one daughter, Sharon Gillespie; grandson James D. Gillespie Jr.; granddaughter Melissa Davis Cate; wives Barbara Dial Baker; Betty Spencer Baker, and Shirley Hunter Watts Baker; stepson Gregory Watts; and stepdaughter Patricia Watts. Challis was a US Navy veteran and retired machine operator.

He is survived by one brother Cebern Baker; one sister, Palmaneda Baker Smith; daughter Debra Baker Davis; stepsons Abe Watts and Wade Watts; grandchildren, Douglas Davis, Jennifer Davis Chappa, Sharon Gillespie Edmisten, Amber Watts, Kimberly Watts, Allison Watts, Wade Watts, Gregory “Tyler” Watts, Trevor Watts, Billy Jo Watts, Jr.; several great and great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Private services will be held for the family. Arrangements entrusted to Johnson Tiller Funeral Home.
