Obituary

GLADYS MAE POE, 99, of Genoa, W.Va., passed away at her home on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, surrounded by her family. She was born July 5, 1927, in Wayne, W.Va., a daughter of the late Sarah and John Henry Crabtree. Her husbands Marion Willis and James Poe also preceded her in death along with one son, Charles Willis; two grandchildren, Lisa Pinder, and Jeffrey Sewell; two great grandchildren Irvin and Cody; and three brothers, John H. Crabtree, Jr., Edgar Crabtree, and Glen Crabtree.

Gladys worked in the defense plant in Huntington making radio tubes for the Navy during WWII. Subsequently she was an operating room secretary for Easton Memorial Hospital. She loved taking care of her children, cooking, word puzzles, and her beloved cats.

She leaves behind two daughters, Phyllis (Bud) Roode of Fellsmere, Fla., and Ellen Hassie of Proctorville, Oh.; three sons, Percy (Phyliss) Willis of Cordova. Md., Forrest (Mary) Johnson-Willis of Berlin, Md., and Doug (Tammy) Willis of Genoa; special friend Veronica Miller of Tellico Plains, Tenn.; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, and great-great-great grandchildren ; and a host of family and friends too numerous to mention.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, August 8, 2026, at Johnson Tiller Funeral Home with Pastor Mike Dillon officiating.
