JAMES HARVEY PREECE, 76, of Genoa, W.Va., went to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 12, 2026. He was born September 7, 1950, in Three Forks, Kentucky, a son of the late James and Susie Maynard Preece. His beloved wife Mary Preece also preceded him in death along with two sisters, Jean Moore, and Martha Fletcher and her husband James “Buddy” Fletcher; and brother-in-law James Justice. James was a retired welder and a member of Apostolic True Gospel Church.
He leaves behind five children, Karen (Virgil) Perry of Kermit, W.Va., Jannie (Kendall) Chapman of Kimper, Ky., Tammy (Clyde) Boyd of Louisa, Ky., James Preece Jr. of Genoa, and Jimmy (Sarah) Preece, also of Genoa; 10 grandchildren, Charity (Winnie) Newsome, Chelsea Chapman, Tanner (Allison) Justice, Brittany Preece, Chandler (Jasmine) Chapman, Emily Grace (Brandon) Ratliff, Collier Chapman, Ethan Perry, Brittany (Greg) Elliott, and Brett (Brittany) Boyd; and 13 great grandchildren, Brantley Workman, Easton Workman, Dawson Newsome, Zaylee Justice, Jordan Elliott, Grayson Preece, John New, Kinsley Chapman, Eliana Chapman, Paislee Ratliff, Bryler Ratliff, Colson Ratliff, and Silas Boyd.
Also surviving are four siblings, Paul (Arlene) Preece of Louisa, Ky., Elizabeth Justice of Williamson, W.Va., Amos (Debbie) Preece of Sedalia, Mo., and Dora Fuller (Rodney Cremeans) of Huntington, W.Va.; special friend Junior Gilkerson of East Lynn, W.Va.; a host of nieces and nephews; as well as family and friends too numerous to mention.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday, September 17, 2026, at Johnson Tiller Funeral Home with Pastor Dallas Stephens officiating. Burial will follow in the Preece Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
