JOHN E. NOLAN III, 84, of Fort Gay, W.Va., went home to be with the Lord on Friday, July 3, 2026, after an extended illness. John was born in Huntington, W.Va. to the late John E. Nolan II and the late Freda Nolan Bates. Also preceding him in death were siblings, Billy Edmonds, Sarah Frances Morgan, Alfred Nolan, and Phyllis Jean Nolan.
He is survived by his children Brenda (John) Amato of Cleveland, Oh., John E. (Ann) Nolan IV of Louisa, Ky., and Mark (Susan) Nolan of Fort Gay. He was loved by his grandchildren Tyler, Zack, Allie, Brandon, Chase, Laken, Skylar, Ivy, Zachary, and Rebecca and his great grandchildren Natalie, Raiden, Cooper, Ella, Elijah, Aaron, Zane, Jaxon, Josie, Lily, Jayden, Brantley, and Dawson.
John attended First Baptist Church in Louisa and loved spending time with his family and especially hunting and fishing with his boys. A special thank you to his friends/caregivers Rhonda and Darrell Cordle and his dear friend of 35 years, Mary Lou Morrison.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 8, 2026, at Johnson Tiller Funeral Home with Pastor Tim Ellis officiating. Burial will follow at Spring Valley Memory Gardens. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
