Obituary

MARVIN KENT ADKINS, 54, of Columbus, Ohio passed away October 1, 2017 at the Kobacker Hospice House in Columbus. He is preceded in death by his father, Marvin Adkins. Kent is survived by his loving wife, Pamela Adkins; his mother, Roberta Adkins of Wayne, W.Va.; and his three sisters, Elaine (Ron) Martino of Proctorville, Oh., Beth (Shawn) Cade of Wayne, and Virginia (Brandon) Bunn of Hurricane, W.Va.; two nephews, Ethan and Cameron Cade of Wayne; his stepdaughter Erica (Jeff) O'Connor and their children Mckenna and Brady of St Peters, Mo.; his stepson, Adam (Maggie) Blattel and their son Evan of O'Fallon, Mo.                                                                                Kent was a 1981 graduate of Wayne High School in Wayne, W.Va., where he excelled in football and baseball. He grew up on his family's farm where he spent his summers bailing hay and winters helping his father haul house coal. He went on to Marshall University where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Geology. While Kent had many business endeavors, he considered his greatest accomplishment as owning his own business, M.K. Adkins and Associates where he focused on Geological Services. He enjoyed a host of hobbies which included traveling, skiing, rock climbing, softball, pool, and darts.  He was a member at the Stonybrook United Methodist Church in Gahanna, Ohio.  Kent was a wonderful husband, son, brother, papaw, and friend. He will be greatly missed.                                                                                                                        Contributions in Kent's memory may be made to The Alzheimer's Association or The American Cancer Society.  Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, October 4th at Schoedinger Northeast Chapel 1051 E. Johnstown Road in Gahanna, Ohio with funeral services at 11 a.m. Thursday at Stonybrook United Methodist Church, 485 Cherry Bottom Road, Gahanna.  Friends may also call from 10:30 a.m. Friday, October 6, 2017 at Johnson Tiller Funeral Home, Wayne, W.Va.,  until 12:30 p.m., at which time the funeral procession will depart for graveside services at Elmwood Cemetery, near his family farm.
