NELLIE MARIE CASTEEL, 92, of Wayne, W.Va., passed away Thursday, July 23, 2026. She was born November 6, 1933, in Wayne, a daughter of the late Edgar and Sylvia Clay. Her beloved husband of 72 years, James Arthur Casteel, also preceded her in death, along with her son, Jamie Casteel; two brothers, Robert Clay and Hobert Clay; and one sister Bettye Ruth Wilson. Marie worked for Appalachian Sewing for several years, and, along with her husband James, owned a general store on Camp Creek for nearly 20 years. She enjoyed sewing and crocheting and could often be found at yard sales, flea markets, or just relaxing on her front porch. Most importantly, she was a homemaker who loved to feed everyone in the neighborhood and made sure no one left hungry.

She leaves behind two grandchildren, Brian (Kathy) Casteel of Wayne, and Tammy Bryant of Huntington, along with their mother, Suzan Music of Huntington; nine great grandchildren, Brandy (Travis) Chapman of East Lynn, Scott Casteel (Jenna) of Apple Grove, W.Va., Kevin (Taylor) Bryant, Kyle Bryant, Kailey Robinette, all of Huntington, Tyler (Whitney) Johnson of Heber, Ariz., Dalton (Stephanie) Johnson of Wayne, Dylan (Brooklynn) Johnson of Genoa, W.Va., and Jada Johnson of East Lynn; great grandchildren, Gabriel Rakes, Gavin Rakes, Dakota Rakes, Dalton Rakes, Tyrell Hairston, Carson Johnson, Casen Johnson, Bailey Johnson, Jace Kearns, and James Bryant; several nieces and nephews, and a host of family and friends too numerous to mention.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, July 27, 2026, at Johnson Tiller Funeral Home with Brother Donald Gene Maynard officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery Annex. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Monday.
