VERNON BROOKS, 78, of Wayne, W.Va., went to be with the Lord on Friday, January 6, 2017. He was born February 26, 1938 in Wayne County, West Virginia, a son of the late Oscar and Eliza Brooks. Also preceding him in death were two sisters, Mary Stephenson and Irene Pack; six brothers, Everett Brooks, Boyd Brooks, Doug Brooks, Willis Gene Brooks, Ernie Brooks, and Oscar J. Brooks; and one granddaughter, Shelly Nicole Hitchcock.  Vernon was a retired truck driver who loved gardening, hunting, and fishing. He leaves behind his loving wife of 55 years, Freda Brooks; three sons, Rick (Tammy) Brooks of Gallipolis, Ohio, Mitchell ( Melissa) Brooks of Branchland, W.Va., and Terry (Vickie) Brooks of Wayne; four grandchildren, Terry Brooks Jr., Casey Brooks, Natalie Brooks, and Sara Brooks; one step-granddaughter, Brandie Sanders; two sisters Mae Dyer of Indiana, and Geraldine Pack of Wayne; and many friends. Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Tuesday, January 10, 2017 at Johnson Tiller Funeral Home with Brother Rick Perdue officiating. Burial will follow in the Warrick Cemetery.  Friends may call one hour prior to the funeral.
