Obituary

WILLIAM ARCHEL COPLEY, 64, of Wayne, WV, left this life on Tuesday, March 22, 2016. He was a wonderful loving husband, father, son, brother, and friend.  He was born January 6, 1952, the son of the late William Varney "Bill" and Biddie Lawson Copley.  William was a proud Veteran of the United States Marine Corps and served during the Vietnam War. He has helped support his fellow Veterans by serving as a volunteer at the Huntington VAMC.  He was a life member of the Huntington Marine Corps League Order of The Devil Dogs  Detachment #340 and had served as Senior Vice Commandant. William was also a member of Salem United Baptist Church. He leaves behind his devoted wife of 44 years Pamela Sue Clay Copley; three loving children, April Dawn & husband Michael, Sara Nicole & husband Zachary, and son Joshua Clay; two granddaughters, who were the light of his life, Ayden Elizabeth and Kylee Raine; and his loving mother-in-law, Eadris Gilkerson Clay.  Also surviving are his siblings Jennings & Kim Copley of Ona, WV; Ron & Teri Copley of Carrabelle, FL; Connie & Jim Lycans of Carthage, NC; and James & Shelia Copley of Catlettsburg, KY; two sisters-in-law Deborah Clay of Ray, OH and Viola Clay of Cleveland, OH; one brother-in-law, Duane Clay, of East Lynn, WV; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, & friends too numerous to list. Our father was a wonderful man that taught us many lessons: the importance of a good sense of humor; to always be kind; to always try our hardest and to do our very best; "big ears and a little mouth", and the importance of a good strong handshake in order to make a good first impression. His love for his family was non-wavering and we will miss him terribly. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, April 1, 2016 at Johnson Tiller Funeral Home with Brothers Tony Clay and Bruce Finley officiating. Burial will follow at Community Memorial Gardens.  Friends may call after 6 pm Thursday at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the William Copley Memorial Fund c/o City National Bank. Our family would like to extend our gratitude to Mr. J. Brian Nimmo, CEO Huntington VAMC and WV Senator Joe Manchin's office for their help with getting our father back home to the United States. We would also like to thank the family that so selflessly decided to donate their loved ones organs 11 years ago, so that we could have our husband & father with us for a while longer. James 1:17 "Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning."
