COLUMBUS CARL MARCUM, 92, of Wayne, W.Va., passed away Monday June 5, 2023, at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House. He was born June 29, 1930, in Kermit, W.Va., a son of the late Roy and Polly Marcum. His wife of 62 years, Arvella Steele Marcum, also preceded him in death along with one sister, Ida Bell Morrissey; and brothers Albert Earl Marcum, Leroy “Bob” Marcum, Donald Ray Marcum, and Larry Eugene Marcum.
Carl was an Army veteran serving at the building of the Panama Canal. He was a machinist by trade and a mechanic by hobby.
Survivors include five children, Sheila Kay Marcum of Huntington, W.Va., Vera G. (Kevin) Merritt of Genoa, Lorna Lynn (Mark) Bradshaw of Wayne, Carl David (Marty) Marcum of New Holland, Oh., and Ida Belle Fizer of Barboursville, W.Va.; seven grandchildren Shannan (Timothy) Gillam of Wayne, Joshua Brunty all of Wayne, Jonathan Collier, Emily Bradshaw, both of Huntington, Ethan Bradshaw of Wayne, Rachel Jackson of South Point, Oh., and Kasey Fizer of Woodbridge, Va.; and 10 great grandchildren, Gaige Marshall, Cayden Gillam, Kailee Brunty, Hailey Melbar, Aiden Bradshaw, Jonathan Mercer, Maddox, Amanda, Charlize, and Brillian Collier; and one great-great grandchild, Knoxlee Nelson.
Also surviving are sisters Edna May Marcum Reichart of Brandon, Fla., and Elizabeth Marcum Compton of Seffner, Fla.; one brother Ulysses Marcum of Marengo, Oh.; several nieces and nephews; and many friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, June 9, 2023, at Johnson Tiller Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Brewer Cemetery, Marrowbone. Friends may call after noon on Friday at the funeral home.
