ELENORA "Whitey" ADKINS, 73, of East Lynn, W.Va., peacefully left this world on Monday, February 5, 2024, at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House, surrounded by family. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and centered her life around her family. She enjoyed cooking, canning and creating memories with her loved ones. Born on August 4, 1950, in Huntington, W.Va., Elenora was the daughter of the late Charley and Mamie Queen. Also preceding her in death were two brothers, Charles Queen and Bill Queen; and three sisters, Loretta Osburn, Penny Asbury, and Maudie "Tuddy" Kermans. Elenora retired from the Wayne County Board of Education as a janitor and attended Green Valley Church.
She leaves behind her loving husband of 54 years, William "Charley" Adkins; two sons, Charley (Stacy) Adkins, Jr. and John Adkins; grandchildren: Aeriel, Zane, and Johnny (Alexis) Adkins, Lakyn (Jacob) Minor, and Lea Bowen; and great grandchildren, Laila Mae, Dani, and Keelie Jo.
Also surviving are two sisters, Patty (Pete) Dyer of Kiahsville, W.Va., and Gaynelle (Earl) Self of Wayne; several nieces and nephews; and friends too numerous to mention.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, February 9, 2024, at Johnson Tiller Funeral Home with Evangelist Eddie McComas and Pastor Garland Perry officiating. Burial will follow in the Scott Adkins Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
