On September 11, 2024, EUGENE S. ADKINS, SR., passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of love, dedication and family. Eugene was the beloved husband for 67 fabulous years to the late Emma Adkins and a devoted father to Rhonda Erb and her husband Leonard, and Eugene “Gene” Adkins, Jr. and his wife Margaret. He was a proud and loving grandfather to Katie Pappas and her husband Andrew, Kellie Corcoran, Lisaray Adkins, Meghan Adkins, Eugene Adkins III, Amber Erb, Meaghan Erb, and Connor Erb. Also surviving are his cherished great-grandchildren Andy Pappas, Alexander Pappas, Christopher Maden, Lucas Maden, and Jackson Atkins; one aunt, Louise Adkins; and a host of cousins, too numerous to mention.
Eugene loved hunting and fishing and enjoyed playing golf at the Esquire Golf Course in Barboursville, West Virginia, where he once got a “hole in one”. He was a dedicated worker at Western Electric located in Baltimore Maryland, where he served 30 years before retiring. Above all, he cherished his time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m., Thursday, September 19, 2024, at Johnson Tiller Funeral Home, Wayne, West Virginia. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, September 18, 2024. Eugene will be laid to rest at the Everett Adkins Cemetery in East Lynn, West Virginia, where his spirit will find peace among the rolling hills he called home. His warmth, generosity, and devotion to family will be deeply missed but forever remembered.
With heartfelt gratitude, the family kindly requested that memorial contributions be directed to the Parkinson’s Foundation (www.parkinson.org) or Gilchrist Hospice (www.gilchristcares.org), in honor of their loved one’s memory.
