Eugene "Gene" Adkins

EUGENE “GENE” ADKINS, 93 of Huntington, West Virginia, went to be with the Lord Thursday, January 29, 2026.  Eugene was an Army Veteran and considered his service an honor and a privilege.  He was member and former Deacon and Trustee of Harmony Freewill Baptist Church, Wayne, W.Va.

He is preceded in death by his father Brookins Adkins; his mother Willa Nelson-Adkins; seven sisters; one brother; his son Mark Adkins; and daughter-in-law Enola Langham-Adkins.

Gene is survived by his wife of nearly 69 years, Genevieve Stephenson-Adkins; and his daughters, Deborah Adkins, Ruth (Tom) Good, and Amanda (Jeff) Smith of Huntington, and Janice Adkins-Bowen of Anderson, S.C.  He is also survived by his nine grandchildren, Bobbi Jo (Chris) Bennet, Brandon Tucker, Matthew Adkins, Robert Tucker, Kyle Good, Aaron Adkins, Jenna Tucker, Collin Smith, and MacKinley Smith; five great-grandchildren Austin Hicks, Cassidi Bennet, Connor Adkins, Kingston McCloud-Good and Freyr Good; daughter-in-law Terri Adkins; special niece Cindy Adkins; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

The Family would like to thank the Herschel “Woody” Williams VA Medical Center and their wonder staff for all the great care he received over the years and especially over the last six months.  To the Sanctuary of the Ohio Valley, Ironton, OH, there are not enough words and thank you’s to cover how you cared for our Dad in his last days and the care you gave his wife and family.  We will be forever grateful for your care, encouragement and compassion.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, February 2, 2026, at Harmony Freewill Baptist Church with Pastor Mike Dillon officiating.  Burial will follow in the Stephenson Cemetery.  Visitation will begin at 11 a.m.  Arrangements entrusted to Johnson Tiller Funeral Home.
