Herman Perry Obituary

Our beloved father, HERMAN P. PERRY, 83, went home to be with the Lord Jesus Christ on Wednesday, April 17, 2024.  With his final breath, he was surrounded by his five children – Darlene (Greg) McCoy, Jimmy Dale (Parr) Perry, David Perry, Rebecca (Bill) Albert, and Shelley (Matthew) Wooten.

Herman was born on July 19, 1940, the son of the late Pansy Clay and Walter Lake Perry.  Raised in the hills of West Virginia, Herman was no stranger to traveling country back roads, reaping the benefits of a homegrown garden, hunting in the moonlight, or front porch pickin’ on a sunny day.

From an early age, Herman embodied a strong work ethic and generous heart.  His calloused hands always provided, ensuring the needs of others were met before his own.  He retired as a millwright from Steel of West Virginia, and many beautiful homes in the local area are a product of and testament to his skills as a carpenter.

As a father, he loved unconditionally.  His strong faith and compassion were balanced by a little charm, a stubborn temperament, and a lot of wit.  His mesmerizing tizzy and resounding howl will forever warm our hearts, but it is his selfless example, tender spirit, and unwavering love that will live on through us for generations to come.

We are comforted knowing his body and mind are at peace, and he is reunited with family and friends hunting on God’s grounds.

Along with his parents, Herman is preceded in death by a great grandson John Timothy Standifer; siblings Vernon Perry, Eloise Woods, Lessie Diaz, Robert Perry, Sam Perry, A.J. Perry; and three infant brothers, Marion, Marshall, and James.

In addition to his children, he is survived by 11 grandchildren – Derrick (Kelsey) McCoy, Dakota McCoy, Allie (Tyler) Boschert, Adam (Angel) Perry, Justin (Allison) Perry, Bethany (Ben) Standifer, Ethan Perry, Rachel Perry, Mason Albert, Amelia Albert, and Ava Albert. He was also blessed to be survived by seven great grandchildren – Miles McCoy, Ezra Boschert, Eden Boschert, Wyatt Perry, Mallory Perry, Samson Standifer, and Sharon Standifer.

Also surviving are siblings Bernard Perry, Seiburn Perry, Walter Perry Jr., Erma (Chuck) Keener, Ralph (Cheryl) Perry, and Sally Smith along with a host of nieces and nephews too numerous to mention.

Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 PM on Saturday, April 20, 2024, at Johnson Tiller Funeral Home with Pastor Jason McComas officiating.  Burial will follow in the Watson Cemetery.  Visitation will be held immediately before the service and will begin at 11:00 AM.
