JOHN ROBERT ROSS, “Boogie Man” 73, passed away Friday, November 26, 2021 at his residence. He was born May 7, 1948 in Cove Gap, West Virginia to his parents that loved him dearly, the late Rev. Earl and Frances Ross Burgess. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, Noah and Martha Ross and George and Eva Burgess. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Roger Ross and Earl Burgess Jr.; mother and father-in-law Otis and Helen Davis; and three special friends, Philip Tomblin, Buck Gallion, and Marty White.
John is survived by his loving wife of over 50 years, Linda Davis Ross; three sisters, Nellie (Bernard) Toppings of Belle, W. Va., Jacqueline Wilson of Cleveland, Oh., and Linda Burgess of Parma, Oh.; three daughters, Martha Ross of Franklin, Oh., Tammy (Robert) Dunn of Whitney, Tex., and Bobbi Frye (Jamey Vaughn) of Chesapeake, Oh.; two sons, Cole Ross of Kiashville, W.Va. and Michael Forest (Rachel Lambert) of Lavalette, W.Va.; four grandsons, Michael Tyler Forest, Skylar Forest, Harley Short, and Waylon Forest; one granddaughter, Amanda Forest; one great grandson Austin Forest; three aunts, Ernie Sova Crossland, Jackie Burgess, and Margert Ross; three special nieces, Cheryl Ransbottom of Belle, Jenny (Jim) Skuhrovec of Valley View, Oh., and his niece whom he shared his birthday with, Tiffany (Justin) Perry of Wayne, W.Va.; one special great nephew and two special great-great nephews, Justin, Mason, and Braxton Ransbottom; along with a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and a special friend, Sonny Tomblin.
John was a Vietnam Veteran, serving two tours. He was formerly employed by Stergel construction as a roofer and Burgess Arco as a mechanic. He loved being outdoors, farming, hunting and fishing. John was known as a private man, but in every conversation with his one of a kind personality, could always make you laugh and smile.
Services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, November 30, 2021 at the Freedom Freewill Baptist Church, starting with military honors performed by the American Legion Post 93, and officiated by Rev. Jack Marcum and Rev. Bernard Toppings. Family will receive friends starting one hour prior to services. Burial will take place at a later date at Ross Wiley Cemetery in Kiashville, West Virginia. Johnson Tiller Funeral Home is assisting the family.
