JOSEPH EARL HUBBELL, 87, of Wayne, W.Va., died Tuesday, July 18, 2023, at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House. He was born January 3, 1936, in Melvin, Ohio, a son of the late Russell and Elizabeth Hubbell. Also preceding him in death were two sisters, Lucy Steritz, and Kattie Smith; one brother, Teddy Hubbell; and four sons, Robby Hubbell, Joey Hubbell, David Hall, and Tim Self. Joe was a US Army veteran and a retired mechanic. He served as a combat engineer from 1954-1957. Joe was a mechanic for many years, he also worked for many years at Beech Fork Campgrounds. Joe was one of the gentlest souls. He was always there to help others, no matter how bad he felt. Even in his last days he was telling his sons how to fix their vehicles.
He leaves behind his loving wife, Sheila Hubbell; one daughter, Trish (Matt) Kohler of Wayne; seven sons, Donny Hubbell of Circleville, Oh., Todd (Teresa) Hubbell of Washington Courthouse, Oh., Troy (Dianne) Hubbell of West Hamlin, W.Va., Todd Hubbell of Washington Courthouse, Brian (Chevon) Hall of Barboursville, Johnny (Lisa) Self of Huntington, and Robert Self of Bellington, Wash.; Joe has 32 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
Funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 23, 2023 at Johnson Tiller Funeral Home with Pastor Larry Carrico officiating and military honors performed by the American Legion Post 93. Visitation will begin at noon.
