Phyllis Ferrell Obituary

PHYLLIS INETA DEAN FERRELL, 90, of Elizabethtown, Penn., went to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 19, 2025, at the Elizabethtown Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.  She was born February 27, 1935, in Verdunville, W.Va., a daughter of the late Millard and Lou Edith Dean.  Her husband Bruce Benton Ferrell also preceded her in death along with maternal grandparents, James and Cecil Spence Lackey; paternal grandparents Hiram T. and Clarissa Counts Dean; one brother Gordan H. Dean; five sisters, Koleta Faye Dean, Iris Irvin, Myrtle Maynard, Birdie Elaine Couch, and Kathryne Rosen; aunts Myrtle Dean Woody, Lena Lackey Morrison, and Elizabeth Lackey Roberts; uncles Leonard, Roscoe, and Claude Lackey; and two daughters Koleta Berning and  Krista Hughes. 

                Throughout her life, Phyllis lived in Clinton, Iowa, Jacksonville, Florida, then settled in Elizabethtown.  She supervised several clothing and gift stores in her career and was a diligent worker and an excellent manager.  Above all, she loved her family and devoted her adult life to them.  She was a wonderful and caring wife, mother, sister, and friend who was always upbeat and positive with a sunny disposition.   

                Survivors include her son Allen “Bud” (Charlotte) Ferrell of Cleveland, Tenn.; two sons-in-law, James Hughes of Elizabethtown, Penn., and Don Berning of Ames, Ia.; and 6 grandchildren.

                Also surviving are two sisters, Millie Ferrell and her husband Steve of McMinnville, Tenn., Sandra Kay Wriston of North Canton, Oh.; three brothers, Millard Fullen Dean, Jr. and his wife Dianna of Frankfort, Ky., James D. Dean and wife Kathy of Wayne, W.Va., Homer Randy Dean and his wife Barbara also of Huntington; beloved sister-in-law, Marie Dean of Atwater, Oh.; along with a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.  She will always be remembered and deeply missed by all who knew her.

                Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, July 28, 2025, at Johnson Tiller Funeral Home with Pastor Michael Dillon officiating.  Burial will follow in Community Memorial Gardens.  Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Monday.
