RUTH WALTERS CARTER, 83, of Lavalette, W.Va., went to be with her Lord on Thursday, September 4, 2025. She was born in her family home in Wayne County on January 14, 1942, a daughter of the late Wilton and Alice Adkins Walters. Her husband Roy Carter also preceded her in death along with one brother, Bill Walters, and two sisters, Deloris Robertson and Glenna Walters. Ruth was a faithful member of Mills Chapel Church since 1984, and she cherished her church family so much.
She is survived by her children, Roy G. Carter, Darlene (Hendrick) Castle, and Tammy (Terrence) Bowen; her grandchildren, Kayla (Ben) Swann, Bradley Harris, Allen Castle, and Katie Brown; and her great grandchildren, Mason and Jacob Swann, Carter Harris, Kylo Brown, and Kason.
Also surviving are her siblings: three sisters, Hope Coleman, Janice Walters, and Christine Harmon; seven brothers, Danny, Jack, Ervin, Paul, John, Ricky, and Desmal Walters; and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Phyllis, Amy, and Zach Carter for their love and support.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, September 8, 2025, at Jonson Tiller Funeral Home with Pastor Danny Damron officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Vernon Cemetery. Visitation will begin at noon on Monday.
