TRUMAN EDWARD McSWEENEY, 83, of Wayne, W.Va., went to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 16, 2023. He was born September 1, 1939, the youngest of 10 children of the late Elisha and Lucy McSweeney. Also preceding him in death were three sisters, Margaret Bance, Ruby Sloan, and Rebecca Dean; and two brothers, Raleigh McSweeney and Charlie McSweeney.
Truman was known for making turkey calls and other wooden gadgets. He usually had a nickname and a song that he came up with for each grandchild as well as friends. He was a member of Harmony Freewill Baptist Church where he was known as the “mint man”, and retired from Pilgrim Glass with over 40 years of service.
He leaves behind his loving wife, Linda McSweeney; one son, Shannon Lee McSweeney; two daughters, Pamela (Freddie) Kazee, and Shauna (Donny) Nicely; seven grandchildren, Timi Rae (Bill) Weese, Kassandra Baker, Logan Shane (Destiney) McSweeney, Michaela (James) Bell, Makensey Adkins (Kolby Stiltner), Levi Kazee, and Josie Nicely; five great grandchildren, Madalyn Rose, Sadie Mae, and Bentley Grace Holbrook, Sawyer Crew Kazee-Weese, and Presley Bell; and eagerly awaiting the arrival of Haylin Stiltner.
Also surviving are two brothers, Oscar McSweeney, and Floyd (Hester) McSweeney; two special friends, Hansford Bowen, and Paul Dillon; many beloved nieces and nephews; and a host of friends. All of whom will miss his never ending songs and rhymes, but mostly his love.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 pm Thursday, July 20, 2023 at Johnson Tiller Funeral Home with Pastor Mike Dillon officiating. Burial will follow in the McSweeney Family Cemetery. Visitation will begin at noon.
